After six sets involving fifty-eight games were played in last Wednesday night’s Wide Bay Australia fixtures match between Team 5 and Team 2, the rare result was a draw. David Wilson and Geoff Chivers of Team 5 won their first set against Wayne Eddy and Rylan Cogan 6-4 but the Team 2 pair won the return set 6-3. Wilson and Loren Flanders were taken to 10-8 in the tie-break before winning their set against Eddy and Leanne Grogan 7-6. The fourth player for Team 5, Lyn McGoldrick, was reserving for the first time and her decisive 6-1 win with Chivers against Cogan and Susan Reiss kept Team 5 in the match.

Two reserves, Mark Eaglesham and Joe Lang, combined with Team 6 regulars Valeen Welsh and Ben Porter to give Team 6 a narrow 30-27 win over Team 1’s Brett Leacy, Michelle Donley, Jason Meiers and Deb Noffke.

With four rounds of the competition played, the lead has changed again with Phil Proctor’s Team 3 just ahead of Sally Williams’ Team 7. Williams and her Team 7 partners Paul Meiers and Shirley Leacy shared the wins in two long tie-break sets against Gabby Lambkin and her Team 11 partners, Steve Lavender and Sally Hills but Team 7 grabbed the win.

It was great to welcome Hills back into this competition.

Tie-breakers were the order of the day again in yesterday morning’s Ladies Midweek Fixtures. Four of the ten sets were decided by tie-breakers in the A grade match in Lyn Udris’s Team 4 win over Betty Searle’s Team 5. There were three tie-breakers in the other A grade match between Team1 led by Jan Tripp and Team 3 led by Sally Williams.

Two of the six sets were decided by tie-breakers in Nola Homann’s Team 4 win in reserve grade.
