Teams
The finals of Wide Bay Australia Wednesday night fixtures,
involving the top ten teams, will be played at Drinan Park
tonight.
The competition for the right to play Don Robinson’s Team 9,
which led throughout the season, was fierce last week with
the honour finally going to Wayne Eddy’s Team 7 which
finished the season very strongly.Patricia and Joel Dixon’s
contributions were integral as they won all their sets.
The match between Team 6 and Team 10, the other teams with a
chance of finishing in second place, was an excellent one
with Team 6’s David Wilson, Michelle Donley, Mike Reid and
John Peedikaparambil finally prevailing 33-32. Donley was
the only player in this match not to lose a set. This result
meant Team 6 finished in third place while Team 10’s Nev
Royan, Sharon Olsen, Grant Goodrum and Naomi Shield were
placed fourth.
Another close match was between Team 12’s Alan Rae, Geoff
Strube, Leanne Grogan and Annette Hammermeister (R) and Team
4’s Clinton Honor, Rhonda Challen, and reserves Moira Pearl
and Janelle Hinchey. Team 12 got off to a great start,
leading by 12-5 after the first two sets but Team 4 worked
hard to reduce that lead, finally going down by only one
game 32-31.
The two reserve grade matches in Ladies Midweek Fixtures at
Rotary Park yesterday were enjoyable ones with very close
results.
Team 5’s Nola Homann, Judy O’Donaghue and Sandra Cross
finished 36-36 with Team 4’s Leanne Grogan, Lisa Beer and
Myrtle Beddow but were declared winners as Beddow was
playing down a position as a reserve.
In the other match Di Gear’s Team 3 defeated Ada Blacklock’s
Team 1 by 35-33.
After a three week break, Bundaberg Seniors Tennis Club
members will be eager to play in their Club Day on Sunday.
