Brianna McConnell of Agnes Waters was all smiles
when her name was called out for the major prize
of a new Tennis Racket and was only two points
behind Jaiden Dwyer of Bundaberg who won Section
2 of the Orange Ball. Jaiden after being
promoted from Red to Orange in this term, only
lost one game 7/6 to Francesca Thompson on her
way to be Overall Winner in the Orange section
with Angus Burton of Agnes Waters third. Adam
Pozzebon of Bundaberg has improved after a short
time off, winning all his eight matches, to win
by four points from Brendan Ryan also of
Bundaberg. Adam and Brendan played a fantastic
match with long rallies, Adam winning 7/4.
Isaac Bavin of Bundaberg surprised himself by
winning Section 1 of the Red Ball without losing
a match from Hamdan Majid of Bundaberg and
Ciaron Ryan, brother of Brendan, taking out
Section 2 in the Red Ball. The day was more
about boys and girls participating,
concentration to improve their skillls on the
game, their counting and scoring skills and also
for parents to get involved in learning the
rules and everyone having fun. Players were
hitting softer balls, using smaller nets and
smaller courts which bought the game down to
their size enabling the players to hit more and
more tennis balls.
Players from Agnes Waters, Gin Gin, Childers and
Bundaberg competed. The next Challenge day will
be in Gayndah in September.
Now, with only two weeks of the weekly Hot Shots
games left for this term, names are being taken
for Term 3 by phoning Kevin 4152 0753 or 0409
520753
Saturday afternoon fixtures will resume this
Saturday for two more weeks also after players
have returned from the Junior Masters circuit
which was held in Biloela on the weekend

In perfect Queensland weather boys and girls gathered at Rotary
Park Tennis complex for the 2nd Head Development Day. The day
was a combination of five Divisions of Yellow Ball and one
Division of Green Ball, the top level of the MLC Hot Shots.
After many years away from the sport, Isaac Baldry surprised
himself coming second in Division 3 and being awarded the
Luckiest Player of the Day. Another player who has had a long
break from the sport, Jye Hawley, came from behind to defeat
Michael Mackie 6/5 (7-5) in the tie-breaker in Division 1. Nine
year old Simon Rathbone outlasted his much older opponents,
Connor Pratt, Romney Setch and Kyle Luthe winning Division 2.
Agnes Waters player,
Alex Mann playing his second Development Day competition showed
how much he has improved taking out Division 5 Singles from
Thomas Corfield of Gayndah and one point away was Jye Flynn
coming third. Jake Boston being promoted from Orange Ball to
Green Ball joined Declan Ryan winning Division 6 and Division 3
respectively. These days are important to communities like Agnes
Waters who are struggling to provide facilities for their
players, who come and participate to gain much needed match
play. The next Development Day is scheduled for Sunday 11th
September.
On Saturday afternoon Fixtures, Kyle Luthe almost caused an
upset over Michael Mackie only to falter in the super
tie-breaker 12-10. Luke Spence held Adam Moyle at bay and Ky
Brown and James Mills played a close match before Ky took
control.
Registrations are being taken for next seasons Saturday Fixtures
and MLC Hot Shots to commence 23rd July. Phone Murray regarding
Fixtures 0407 639824 or Kevin 4152 0753 or 0409 520753 for MLC
Hot Shots.
