The Vipers’ Bushido is awarded when a student has attained a standard of Loyalty, Strength, and Dedication, whilst following the path of the warrior. Bushido, translated means “the code of the warrior”

The seven principles of the True Warrior are:
Rectitude-doing the right thing regardless of the cost
Courage
Benevolence
Politeness/Propriety
Honesty/Sincerity
Honour
Loyalty

A student will be awarded the right to wear a Silver Vipers’ Bushido. Gold is only worn by students who have attained the rank of Full 1st Degree Black or awarded by Kru/Renshi Warren for special achievements.

The Vipers Bushido may also be removed from a student who dishonours the code or brings the club into disrepute.

Earlier this year a contingent of Viper's Muay Thai students, led by Kru Warren, travelled to Hervey Bay for a seminar with Ajarn Chai Sirisute. Ajarn is the President of the Thai Boxing Association of USA and is a world renowned expert and champion Thai Boxer.

The 3 hour seminar covered various aspects of conditioning, training drills and fighting. Ajarn himself is a tribute to the benefits of Thai Boxing training. Despite his years in training he still has very fast hands, as some students found out, and is obviously very strong and fit. He took us through various combinations, defensive drills and conditioning work.

Viper Trish Wray took Ajarn's eye as he singled her out for some praise, and Trish also was interviewed by the local TV news team!

Opportunities to meet with and learn from fighters and trainers as respected as Ajarn Chai Sirisute come along rarely. All the Viper gang agreed it was a top day out!

Few Martial Arts clubs can boast the longevity and success that Kru/Renshi Warren Sharrock has achieved through his commitment and dedication to Vipers Martial Arts and to his many students.

‘Vipers’ has gone from strength to strength over the years and We have the best-equipped centre in the region, and with Kru Warren’s experience and teaching ability Vipers will continue to grow and to produce top class fighters and Martial Artists and help students develop fitness, health and character. No other club in town offers the choices of training that ‘Vipers’ does; Muay Thai, Freestyle Combat, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Kids Kickboxing and Women’s Kickboxing classes.

Kru Warren has also started delivering self-defence training under contract for Qld Health, based at the ‘Vipers’ club hall, which helps raise the ‘Vipers’ profile in the larger community. Who knows what opportunities this may bring in the future.

Remember, a strong club gives its students continued high level training, top class facilities, seminar opportunities and fun social activities.

So… a big congratulations to Kru Warren and Tina on achieving this 10 Year milestone!!!

p.s. There will be a Vipers Martial Arts 10-Year Celebration later on in the year. More details coming your way soon.

50 years of Brothers RL

The last few months for the wrestling guys have been most eventful. We have had two trips away to Brisbane during this period, one to an Anthony Perosh seminar and the other to the Queensland Submission Grappling series Championships. It is these events that will be the focus of this entry.

It was our first time at an Anthony Perosh seminar and the experience turned out to be most rewarding. Anthony’s presentation of techniques and the thinking behind it left us all feeling like we had not only learned new techniques but also how to drill them and therefore make them part of our own game. Seeing an elite athlete’s game and the reasoning behind it is a rare opportunity. But most importantly everyone had a good time and was inspired by the level of wrestling experienced. Lastly for those who don’t know Anthony Perosh is the holder of numerous titles such as the Current Spartan Champion (a MMA competition) and the long time number one in his weight category at the Australian BJJ Championships. Next time he is up our way we will definitely be making the trip to see him.

On the 10th of June we went down to the Queensland Submission Grappling Championships. It was a huge event for the Brisbane Submission wrestling community. I personally had a great time watching the 6 and 7 year olds wrestling with no submissions. Their focus and enthusiasm towards the wrestling was truly inspiring to say the least. Three of our guys competed in the tournament. Each Viper wrestled several times during the day with a high level of the Viper competitive spirit. The results in no particular order are:

Rob Johnson 2nd place in his Gi weight division
Alec Munn 3rd place in the No Gi open division
Tony Homann 2nd place in the Gi open division
An excellent result,

All the best in training

Ron
