Gemma Murray

Five year old Gemma Murray is in her second year playing hockey and loves it. Gemma has followed her older brother and sister into the game. A Prep School student at Avoca Primary School, she is a budding chef with pancakes her specialty.

Gemma has a dog “Boof” she is not sure about, but is a big fan of the cartoon Ben 10 and joins brother Brendan as a “Cold Rock Star”

Charlotte Kelly

Fifteen year old St. Lukes student Charlotte Kelly is a member of the Queensland Hockey Development Squad and has represented Wide Bay and Queensland schoolgirls. Charlotte plays Futsal in the summer and also plays Softball at school.

She has many interests away from her chosen sport and is fully committed to attaining thr Duke of Edinburgh Award (Bronze Level) in the near future. Charlotte also plays Clarinet and named swimmer Libby Trickett as her favourite sportsperson

Four talented Bundaberg youngsters, all from Cities Hockey Club, Joel Latham, Josh Stacey, Sarah Quaite and Britt Clark who represent Queensland in the under 16 Secondary School girls and boys hockey teams.

They will be travelling to Canberra for the 2008 Pacific School Games, held 30th November - 6 December 2008. The Pacific School games is an international sporting event for primary and secondary school students held every 3 to 4 years. It is the flagship event of school sport Australia.

The 2008 pacific games will be held in Canberra, Australia's national capital and home to the Australian Institute of Sport.

Other sports to participate in the Pacific games include Basketball, Diving, Swimming and Track and Field. This is the first year that Hockey and Basketball have been added to the core of sports. The web site for the event is http://www.pacificschoolgames.edu.au  and is well worth having a look at.

There will be an opening ceremony held at the Canberra stadium, one of Canberra major international sports venue which has facilities for major presentation and significant spectator seating. The opening ceremony is on the morning of Sunday 30th November which will be a spectacular presentation of song, music, drama and dance showcasing the talent of ACT students. The closing ceremony is on the evening of Saturday 6th December, the competitors, officials and others involved in the games will have a opportunity to mix, celebrate new friendships and farewell each other will be held at Canberra Thoroughbred Park.

It is anticipated that the host of the next Pacific School Games will be announced and a hand over ceremony to the next hosts will form part of the closing ceremony.

Competitors come from 30 teams from the States and Territories, countries around the Pacific Rim and other invited Nations.

Invited Countries are - Australia - All States and Territories, Brunei, China, Cook Islands, Ecuador, Fiji, French Polynesia, Guam, Hawaii, Hong Kong, Marau, Malaysia, New Caledonia, New Zealand, Niue, Nauru, Pakistan, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Samoa, Singapore, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu, Vietnam.

Congratulations to Joel, Josh, Sarah and Britt, an opportunity of a life time.

Craig Martin who is Bundaberg's development coach has helped these four players with there skills and talent. Craig Martin is the coach of the Queensland under 16 Secondary Schoolboys Hockey Team and this is a well deserved wrap for our talented kids in Bundaberg Hockey.

Bundaberg Hockey would like to thank Craig for the time and effect he has put in to coaching our kids.
